Ledyard Democrats Didn't Accept "Business as Usual" - They Fought for Ledyard Residents!
Instead of accepting "business as usual," Ledyard Democrats worked to:
This approach has already delivered results:
Vote Row A for a Better Vision for Ledyard!
- Secure outside funding for long-neglected capital needs
- Invest in stronger schools so every student can succeed
- Plan budgets that look to the future, not just the next year
- Strengthen public safety and emergency services
- Pursue grants to improve infrastructure and support our first responders
This approach has already delivered results:
- Democrats applied for $229,000 in federal funding to support our police department - the first time in Ledyard's history that this type of grant was pursued.
- The Ledyard grant proposal had been 𝙨𝙚𝙡𝙚𝙘𝙩𝙚𝙙 𝙖𝙣𝙙 𝙖𝙥𝙥𝙧𝙤𝙫𝙚𝙙 𝙩𝙝𝙧𝙤𝙪𝙜𝙝 𝙖 𝙘𝙤𝙢𝙥𝙚𝙩𝙞𝙩𝙞𝙫𝙚 𝘾𝙤𝙣𝙜𝙧𝙚𝙨𝙨𝙞𝙤𝙣𝙖𝙡𝙡𝙮 𝘿𝙞𝙧𝙚𝙘𝙩𝙚𝙙 𝙎𝙥𝙚𝙣𝙙𝙞𝙣𝙜 𝙥𝙧𝙤𝙘𝙚𝙨𝙨 and passed through appropriations. The Continuing Resolution passed in the US Congress in March excluded ALL Congressionally Directed Spending funds, including funds that Congress had ALREADY voted to appropriate across the country to towns and states - therefore, the councilors are reapplying for this grant - 𝙥𝙧𝙤𝙜𝙧𝙚𝙨𝙨 𝙩𝙖𝙠𝙚𝙨 𝙥𝙚𝙧𝙨𝙞𝙨𝙩𝙚𝙣𝙘𝙚!
- Democrats advocated for and supported a STEAP grant to improve our community infrastructure.
- Democrats advocated for matching funds to submit the most successful application possible. Republican leadership encouraged a submission with no matching funds –-> there was not a single grant awarded with no matching funds.
- Democrats led the fight to make sure that the application submitted had the highest chance of approval with Town support. The result? 𝘼 𝙜𝙧𝙚𝙖𝙩 𝙙𝙚𝙖𝙡 𝙛𝙤𝙧 𝙇𝙚𝙙𝙮𝙖𝙧𝙙!
- $179,000 from Undesignated capital funding (not tax levy)
- $893,000 awarded to Ledyard for 4 playscape replacements
- Ledyard's cost share: 16.6%
- Reduced liability and maintenance costs
