Ledyard board concerned about wrong posts
January 24, 2022
"I was shocked while reading the article about social media and the P&Z alternate appointment, “P&Z alternate appointment in Ledyard becomes controversial,” (Jan. 18). The writer of the article gave the impression that expressing views on Facebook about affordable housing was on the same caliber as having Facebook posts referencing the Oath Keepers, the three percenters, and depicting an image that says “Muslim Scull Crusher” as a profile picture. One is a concern for the less fortunate, one is racist, misogynistic propaganda. What is worse is that the Republicans did not even consider Terry Ault’s posts to be an issue.
Maybe this type of behavior is what is causing people to move from this area in droves. They have seen firsthand the problems here. My husband and I recently switched from Republicans to Democrats due to recent Republican behavior. Remember Republicans, fewer voters equal fewer votes."

Election 2021:
Support Candidates Who Will Listen to Residents
"When Councilor Ingalls proposed that there's a counterperspective to social justice, it took media attention for her comments to be addressed. After hearing disapproval from residents, councilors suggested that residents attend meetings to bring their concerns and questions. However, when we did just that at a Community Relations Committee meeting in May, another Republican councilor shut the meeting down instead of engaging with genuine, thoughtful questions from residents. Video of the meeting can be watched at: http://bit.ly/LedyardCRCMay5.
Personally witnessing our elected Republican officials' inability to answer difficult questions, or at least hold each other accountable, has encouraged me, an unaffiliated voter, to seek out representatives who can communicate more clearly and are willing to address the concerns of our community. Nicole Cruz-Glacken, Joanne Kelley and Naomi Rodriguez listen to residents' concerns and act with integrity and transparency. They will have my vote on Nov. 2."

Ledyard needs a hard-working school board
"Several of the Republican BOE members are just warm bodies going through the motions of their position. Several frequently do not come to meetings prepared (when they come to subcommittee meetings at all). One Republican member has proudly proclaimed, more than once, that he does not like to read (to explain why he was not prepared). Our children deserve much better than this kind of willful ignorance.
Poor oversight of the school reconstruction projects from the Permanent Municipal Buildings Committee (PMBC), which is run by Republican leadership, has cost a great deal of taxpayer money in cost overruns.
We need more BOE members like Naomi, Kate and Joanne. I hope you will join me in voting for them on Nov. 2."

Kids' First Candidates in Ledyard
"I want to thank Naomi Rodriguez, Joanne Kelley, and Kate DiPalma-Herb for their tireless advocacy on behalf of our kids.
They have worked hard to ensure the Ledyard Board of Education has been transparent and put science first. They bring years of experience with Ledyard schools and are exactly the voices our community needs when it comes to making policy for our students.
As we move into the next phase of the pandemic, science-centered, kids' first policies will be what makes Ledyard schools successful. Let’s do our part by voting for Nakai Northup, Carmen Garcia-Irizarry, Mary Harris, and Alex Rode to join them on the Board!
Vote Nov. 2!

Two scientists have her vote in Ledyard
"There are two scientists running for BOE who will have my votes. One is Carmen Garcia-Irizarry, a scientist employed at Pfizer whose tireless advocacy for science-centered policy is exactly what we need on our Board of Education. In listening during her campaigning to her views on masks at schools, I feel confident in her advocacy for the safety and health of children at school.
The other is Mary Harris, a scientist who worked at Pfizer and then taught science for many years at Fitch and other high schools. I cannot think of a background more well-suited for the BOE than this combination of work experience!
As the pandemic moves into its next phase, voices like Carmen's and Mary's are ones we need making sound decisions that put students and science first. Please join me in voting for Carmen and Mary for the Board of Education on or before Nov. 2nd!"

Support Ledyard Democrats for School Board
"...Implement policies to recruit educators and staff that reflect the diversity of our student body;
• Insist on transparency, clear communication, and collaboration between the administration, staff, parents, and students; • Rely on trusted resources for making health, science, and education policy that promotes and protects our students' health and safety at all times,” (ledyarddtc.com/candidates.html). There is not enough space to list all of the exceptional experiences that these candidates bring to the table. So, I urge all Ledyard voters to see for yourself at the ledyarddtc.com.
